A highly valuable, aromatic spice tree (Myristica fragrans) native to the Maluku Islands and heavily cultivated in Kerala. It uniquely yields two distinct spices from a single pale-yellow fruit: the dark inner seed (Nutmeg) and its vibrant, lacy crimson-red outer wrapping (Mace/Jathipatri). While traditional seedlings take 7–8 years, modern premium grafted varieties remain compact, guarantee female high-yielding trees, and begin production in just 3–4 years.
