Rambutan N18 (Nephelium lappaceum ‘N18’)

The premier commercial rambutan cultivar in Kerala, widely favored by terrace orchardists for its large, deep crimson-red fruits covered in soft red spinterns. The thick, juicy flesh is strictly freestone (aril separates cleanly without seed coat adhesion), offering a crisp bite and a rich, honeyed sweetness with balanced acidity.

Grafted trees adapt remarkably well to large rooftop containers and grow bags (18×18 or 24×24 inches). With annual post-harvest canopy heading back to prevent legginess, it thrives in high terrace humidity and full sun, setting heavy clusters of high-quality fruit within just 2 years of planting!

Description

Rambutan N18 is a tropical fruit variety known for its attractive, hairy-skinned fruits with juicy, translucent flesh and a sweet, refreshing flavour. The fruits are typically enjoyed fresh and are valued for their delicious taste. The tree grows best in warm, humid climates with regular rainfall and prefers deep, fertile, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. It thrives in full sunlight to partial shade, particularly during its early growth stage. Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, as rambutan trees do not tolerate prolonged dry conditions well. Avoid waterlogging to protect the roots. With suitable growing conditions and proper care, Rambutan N18 can become a productive addition to tropical home gardens and orchards.
